Who has a good deal on SGC Tuners
« on: April 19, 2003, 11:42:25 PM »

I am looking for a good source for an SGC-239 antenna tuner. The list price has dropped to $179 but I am interested to know if anyone discounts, throws in free shipping or other incentives.

You can try calling around just before and during the Dayton event, many dealers run specials and sometimes you have to call in (toll free) to get the deals.

I'd say SGC.
I am not sure why you need a 239 but I own a 237 that
I use mobile with a 114 inch whip and it tunes up on
every HF band , with the exception of 15 meters and
160 meters.
Yes, and it tunes to 6 meters as well.
I purchased it direct from SGC. The only thing cheaper
may be to find one used.

I don't know about free shipping, but don't order direct from SGC.  They charge somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 for UPS ground.  I ordered mine from AES, and the shipping was somewhere closer to $10.  It's a great tuner.  I've got mine tuning a horizontal loop at the moment, and it takes about 3 seconds to tune to less than 1.5:1 on every band.

Regarding the question: Why get the 239 instead of ther 237?  The 239 is about $180, 237 about $350, so that's a good reason.  I realize the 237 does more, but I'm considering the 239 since it looks like it will do what I need (match a long wire for a stealth installation).  One major downside of the 239 is it's not waterproof like the 237 so I have to protect it myself.

I have the 239. It's an amazing little tuner. I use it at home on 160 through 10 meters with a 100 foot doublet fed with 300 ohm twinlead. When on the road, it tunes a 110” whip 80 through 6 meters. At $179, it’s a bargain. You can have lots of fun experimenting with loops, verticals, long wires etc. Go for it!

I wish I had one years ago. Could have saved a bundle over store bought antennas.
