Greetings!

I am posting this new topic, because I need help from those of you who already have tested both of these radios, and know what they are able to do.

 The reason is this:

I have one ic-706mkiig only with 5 months of use, and I am happy with it.. Have been doing mostly VHF ssb and HF.

Suddenly when I was speaking to a portuguese ham, he said he always wanted one of these, and In the form of a joke I asked him, why dont we change our radios...

His ic-746 doesnt have a scratch and he told me he is very carefull with antennas, etc etc, but It has 3 years of use.

By your experience, and by the stats, and since I dont use this radio on mobile, do you think the trade would be good for me?
I really dont use uhf much, and I know I would lose the 70cm band, but do you think the better receiver would compensate that?
Overall performance would compensate exchanging a 5 month rig for a 3 year old one?
I also hear the vhf receiver of the 746 is not so good.... is it worst than the 706mkiig  ?
I am sure some of you out there have both radios and can help me out!

Thanks for all answers in advance :)

Personally, I wouldn't do it.  I have a 706MK11 just likes yours and also a 756ProII.  The 706 will receive and work just about anything the 756 will.  Sure, the 706 doesn't have the bells and whistles for extreme weak signal work but is still a great little rig.  In addition, you might discover you just HAVE TO WORK 70 cm at some future time.  I try to always remember that "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."  73s
