IC-746PRO...

160-2 meters (no 220mhz)

All mode, no filters to purchase...just add a power supply.

I own one (it's a fine radio...) and a TS-850 also. I love my '850 but for your requirements the '746PRO is the one.

Well I think it's going to be a FT-950 or a TS-2000. I had a unexpected cash windfall and both of these are in the range now.

I am going to HRO today and fondle the goods and will leave with one or the other.

I am leaning to the FT-950 at this point for a couple of reasons....The Serial CAT control is a big plus so no special CAT cable is needed. The second is I just like its layout.

The TS-2000 offer more bands which would be redundant with the 857D I have but it also has a built in TNC which is a plus.

Thought before I go drop the cash?

Get the TS 2000, Sell the 857, Put that money into antennas.

Sub 1K? Ten Tec Omni V, with or without N4PY's V9 chip. Add an LDG tuner and you have a rig that will easily keep up with most of the new crop.

And if by some mischance something happens to it Ten Tec will repair it, something I cannot say about many much newer rigs that have been mentioned here.
