Has anyone used this combination of products? I'd like to be able to control my 706MKIIG through the computer (and add a code reader). The price tag on the CT-17 is steep, so I wanted to get some feedback before making the purchase.

Not sure of TRLog, but have used Logger and MixW software and the CAT funtion works with both.
You can build your own CI-V converter, this site has many plans. I used the one with the opto couplers and it was very inexpensive to build and it worked great:
