About APRS, and a big thank you to KC7ORU and KC7NXP

Last weekend Kati K7KTI and I was part of a team of hams providing communication for a Rally Race in Northern NV.

Friday night we was staffing a check point/stage start in the dessert south west of Lovelock NV.

After the race was over, on the way out, we was the last of 5 vehicles going out, and because of the massive dust from the other vehicles we was maintaining quite some distance.

At some time we lost contact with the other vehicles, and got disoriented, could not see any land marks etc in the dark. We was at no time in danger, we had enough food, water fuel for several days,

However, I have APRS in my truck, so I switched to a local repeater (147.030) and sent out a request for help.

Patrick KC7ORU responded, but does not have internet at his house, but Jim, KC7NXP heard the conversation and came on the frequency.

Jim was able to pick up my location on www.aprs.fi, and give me direction out to I80.

Both Patrick and Jim did a great job talking us out to I-80 and keep us company.

Big thank you to both, it was ham radio on it's best.
In the mean time we was missing at the staging area and a truck was sent out to investigate.
