APRS with Kenwood TS-2000
« on: October 15, 2010, 02:14:30 PM »

I have had no luck with APRS using the TS-2000 onboard TNC.  I have tried win aprs and UI-View with all the settings set on the radio as they should be.  I am able to get the TNC to light up but I am not able to receive packets.  I believe it is somewhere in the commands that is not right because of the onboard TNC differences.  Any help with those that have working aprs with the ts2000 please help!

I use AGW packet engine with my 2000, works perfect! Make sure that you use the sub receiver and that it's selected in the menu for packet.

I have had no problems using UiView with the internal TNC.  Make sure you are using KISS mode in the software, you have the receiver squelch set properly (if you don't have the radio squelched, the TNC will buffer transmit data until there is no incoming signal - the light comes on when the buffer has data and goes out when it is sent) and you have a straight-thru RS-232 cable between radio and computer.

Been using UiView and TS-2000 TNC for several year without an issue.  Are you sure your serial communicating with the TS-2000.  You should see PKT and PC in the upper right hand corner the the display if your computer, UiView the the TS-2000 are communicating.  Check TS-2000 Menu item 55 is ON and item 56 is set to correct COM speed (ie 57600bps).  Set UiView Comm Setup to Baud Rate=57k6, Parity=None, Data Bits=8, Stop Bits=1, Binary Filter, Com Port you are using (ie 1) and Host Mode=KISS.  Good Luck

Note...The TS-2000 requires Hardware Flow Control (ie CTS - RTS)

Hello all.  I have problems using the TS-2000 sub band at 9600 on a VHF frequency.  My goal is to run an APRS Digipeater/Igate on 144.35 at 9600 using AWG Packet Engine and APRSIS32.  Has anyone gotten their TS-2000 working this way?  I want 9600 on VHF on 144.35 as while in my mobile on the 710G, I want to talk UHF on the right side of the radio and have the left side working VHF at 9600.  Please share your thoughts or even your solution with me if you have any.  Thanks all.
