Dave, I don't recall this particular Polarad unit but I suspect its one of the larger units they made, perhaps the one with two sections? There is a Polarad site that has several manuals, but it appears yours is not listed. To learn how to use a spectrum analyzer, HP has a very good tutorial booklets on spectrum analysis, specifically Note 150, 150-1, and 150-8, dated from the 1970s. They're old but very useful. There are some tricks to learn regarding seeing what's really there and what's not. Things like sweep speed and bandwidth are interrelated and very critical in displaying the real waveform and not a distorted artifact. Especially troublesome on old spec-A's is the ability to create false signals. Again, with careful adjustment, one can visualize real signals and be able to identify those that are false.
