Stan,

I know you researched the radio prior to buying.  If I am not mistaken you were torn between the 5000 and the K3.  Also, if I remember correctly you were told and knew about both the 160 spur and previous difficulties with CW (also anf and nr).  If this is all true (again I am going by memory alone), I would suggest you were not surprised by the deficiencies.  This brings up the pivotal question why the caustic tone and the feined surprise in the deficiencies?

I was a lurker when you were on the flex reflector and as an impartial observer I thought your approach was very caustic and I would have banned you far earlier.  You and I both bought the same radio and presumable knew the warts prior to buying the difference is I am happy and don't have an axe to grind.

Stan,

It isn't the message at all.  The messenger is the problem.  The old adage you can get more with honey...  Prime example are your backhanded attacks an Neil with regard to his computers and dpc's come to mind.  I believe him to be genuine and i surely don't think he makes enough money building those pc's to compromise his integrity.  I am just offering another point of view from a unbiased standpoint.  I just dabble with the radio and find it fun to tweak the computer and get things working better.  I really didn't particularly want to address my perception of your methods of communication but it has eaten at me and I thought I could perhaps have some positive impact.  Often i feel you ascribe ulterior motives to people that just don't seem to be there.  I appreciate your congeniality in response to my comment.  Thanks on the girls, I am a proud daddy.

For what it is worth and to get the thread back on topic.  CW is fixed, ANF and NR are every bit as good as my Icom. Wide band image rejection and manual notch seem to be the bugaboos now I guess.  I look forward not to their failure at addressing these but to how the solution works.  I think it is neat to see the evolution of the radio/software.  After all... These issues and addressing them in software is the truly revolutionary thing about real SDR's.

Does ANF work well for you on all bands? I've found that it works very well on 20m, but very poor on 15m.

I don't recall that any of the "CW is fixed" crowd has stated that he tested the radio on all bands as I have. No one has mentioned six CW. The performance of my 5000 seems quite variable even with 2.0.19. Even after all the things I've tried.

My transmitted CW is fine but the sidetone is still clicky, thumpy. Next step is to call Stan's man at DX Engineering and buy more ferrites.

I don't think a good CW radio can have a bad sidetone.

Don't know about CW on 6.  I almost exclusively use digital modes and I almost never use 6m.  NR and ANF work for me everwhere I have used them (20, 40, 80).

I wasn't meaning to imply no problems... Just that they seem fixed to me.  Especially compared to previous performance.

I have the same issues with CW side tone with 2.0.19. It was driving me crazy during the ARRL DX contest last weekend. I hope they fix it soon.

I disagree about Neal's computers. I needed a new shack computer anyway, a virgin one without all the Best Buy starter software. I figured I was paying a $75 premium for his machine with some custom stuff I specified. All ham software was already loaded. Not everyone is retired with unlimited time as you are.  Above all, I figured I was buying Neal's years of experience with Flex... worth a premium over the skills of the kid from BB who only knows how to sell maintenance contracts.

Enough silly stuff

Thanks for my laugh of the Day. You can not use "Flexradio" (they) and "soon" and or "fix" in the same sentence..

I think you're right. I'm at the point now where I might just request the source code and make my own branch and work on fixing and implementing things that are important to me.
