<reply> "Sorry Sold" <send> Sellers is that to much to ask?
« on: March 18, 2011, 09:17:39 AM »

Three times yesterday I sent replies to various ads to purchase items at the sellers asking price.  NOT ONE BOTHERED TO REPLY.

Now the occasional non-response is typical of ham selling, but three in one day seems to be the top of the heap.  Perhaps it's the absence of face to face dealing which makes it OK to throw manners out the window.  But we all know that politeness quickly disappears in the anonymous internet environment.

If you post an item for sale and receive replies, then IMHO you are obligated to respond in some way.  Yes it's a pain in the butt to have to reply to a large number of offers or questions.  That is part of selling.  Even at the very least amend your post to say "Sorry Sold Thanks to all who responded" which will cut off any new replies.

But if you have a bunch in your Inbox , you owe each and every one a reply of some sort.

Have you considered that perhaps the sellers have a backlog of emails to answer that came in before yours did? Also, not everyone stays on line for extended periods of time to answer emails. 24 hours isn't that much of a delay.

Hopefully you'll get replies soon.

Check to make sure that the emails you send out are clean. Some providers append text ads at the end, usually advertising the email service you are using, resulting in the receiver's spam filter blocking the email.

I've  posted numerous items for sale here and occasionally I'll find a legitimate inquiry in my spam folder instead of my regular inbox.

I've given up sending courtesy e-mails telling my customers when an item has been shipped.  85% of them are not reaching the designated e-mail address mainly because they are landing up in junk files, being deleted by spam software or just being refused by bot.

In fact, I've had a couple of instances (I seem to recall that it was Earthlink e-mail.....) where I was sent a form to fill out in order to allow my e-mail to be delivered to the addressee!

I will respond to those who inquire as to the shipping date because a response to an e-mail won't get tied up in spam filters or junk files because it originates from the customer and not from me.

Most sites allow you to modify your listing to show something is sold.  You can go on a net search and find stuff shown still for sale after 5 or more years.  Too lazy to mod or delete the ads?  If someone is not a volume seller with alot to track they should be able to do this quickly.  But volume sellers are often businesses so they actually keep their listings updated better.   Some sites have better features so that something being sold or pending shows up pretty quickly.
