Question about K8CR (443.575 MHz) repeater in Cincinnati
« on: April 12, 2011, 06:30:58 AM »

I am a ham in Cincinnati and I have some questions about the 443.575 repeater in West Chester, OH.

Recently I have been listening to the local repeaters (I operate HF most of the time) and I noticed that occasionally the 443.575 repeater is retransmitting HF stations (I think on 10m) calling from DX locations (Argentina, Puerto Rico).  So here are my question:

- Is this repeater linked to a 10m repeater?  If yes, what frequency?

- Can I use this repeater to link up with HF stations using my 70cm HT?  If yes, are there any specific procedures / protocol that I should follow?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I do not know anything about this repeater, but......on my 440 repeater with an old ACC RC-85 controller, I have a Kenwood TS-440 transceiver interfaced with the repeater.  By entering the proper "turn on code" from a touch-tone mic you can turn the HF transceiver "on", change bands and frequencies, receive a voice mode and frequency "read out" over the air, and operate SSB on any HF band by using a 440 FM transceiver through the repeater.

My HF antenna is just a trapped dipole, but it works very well at 250 feet.

It is nice to be mobiling to work, bring up the 440 repeater, turn the HF transceiver on via touch tones, set a band and a frequency, and talk SSB to the other side of the world from a 440 FM transceiver.

Maybe the repeater you are listening to has a similar set-up.

Or maybe linked via echolink or similar internet linking of systems.

Dick, you're the first other ham I've run into that actually has an ACC RC-85 controller tied into a UHF Repeater, with the second port controlling a Kenwood TS-440S HF Transceiver. I've been doing the same thing for the last couple of years.

I asked on and off for years on various Repeater and ACC web sites about how to get some of the unique interfacing and control to work properly, and finally hooked up a 'scope and found the missing info that the manual doesn't cover very well. Now that I finally got all it going, it's lots of fun to listen to and from work on my long commute. Living on a high hilltop away from City noise is most helpful, for both the repeater coverage and the HF radio's ability to hear weak signals.

I have a 440 repeater that had 5  IC-900 bases (10, 6, 2, 220, 440) attached to an ACC RC-85. The 10 meter remote had coverage not to be believed!! Puerto Rico...VI...not a problem.... Europe...Africa...I loved it...unfortunately, I lost the site it was at. Have it at the house now....have to put a 10 meter antenna up.....
