Kenwood TS-520 Filter
« on: October 09, 2001, 10:54:51 AM »

I am trying to get a filter for my ts-520 for CW.  I don't think this model of filter is made anymore, and requests locally have turned up nothing.  My question is, does any other filter work in the ts-520?

These are still made, brand new, and readily available from International Radio (INRAD).  Their 400 and 500 Hz 8-pole crystal filters for the TS520S cost $98 and are well worth it; they're better than the original Kenwood filters.

Ditto what Steve said about the Inrad filters.
I've got the 400Hz model in my 520 and it does a beautiful job.

You'll need to fire up the soldering iron to get it installed but it's not bad.

If you have litle experience in soldering and are not comfortable adding the IRAD filter to you TS-520, find a good technician at your local ham club.  Anothe option is your local commercial two-way shop technician or amateur radio store.
