How are you doing IDs on UHF links from remote receivers?
« on: August 26, 2011, 10:14:43 AM »

I'm putting together a project for MCW ID on the transmitters from satellite remote receivers on the cheap.

I'm probably going to use an ID-O-MATIC and some logic to ID without PL...

All sorts of issues spring to mind, perhaps the big one is how to suppress voting the ID over active use of one of the other remotes.

If you're doing this, would you share your technique?

I know that there are some ideas that these links don't need to ID, but that dog won't hunt IMO.

Thanks in advance for your ideas and opinions...

IF your remote receivers at the hub site require a PL tone from the link and if you strip PL from the link when it is IDing it shouldn't be voted. At least that is what I am able to shake loose from my brain at the moment.

I use the ID-8 from Com-Spec.  When the link ID's, I utilize logic from the IDer to disable the PL/DPL encoder so that the link receivers dont not respond.

You could also make your ID at 100 hz, below the threshold of the PL-removing high pass filter.  It'll key up the hub, but you won't hear it.

I don't like to run PL on my links.  It introduces too many delays to get repeater keyed up.  One PL decoder takes long enough to respond.  When you start cascading them, you'll end up having to key the repeater for 1-2 secs before talking to allow for all the PL decoders to activate.
