ITT Mackay Marine 3030AR and 3031A. 10KHz-30MHz synthesized, rack-mount units. AM/USB/CW; RTTY and LSB w/ optional filters. ISB with optional IF module.

The 3030 uses a BCD thumbwheel arrangement to set the operating frequency, whereas the 3031 is tuned by means of a knob/optical encoder. From the 1st IF back they're the same radio.

I managed to snag a whole bunch of 5.000 and 4.998MHz crystals and plan to build LSB filters for both of mine.

Would love to lay my hands on a 3040A and 3041A, which were delivered with both filters.

R-390A -- Mine was built by Motorola.  Beat my WJ 8888A.

A tuned front-end beats a tracking pre selector and post mixer filters!  With QRM, there's nothing like SSB through a 1 KHz crystal filter.  Or CW with a 0.1 KHz crystal filter!

Most SWL agree with you, it also has a good air band, as well as DSP.

For shortwave listening I use a Drake R8 receiver coupled to an RF Systems DX-1 Pro II antenna.
I have worked some rare DX over the years with this combination.
I also find the Drake R8 series to be superb both in sensitivity and selectivity.
If you can find one in reasonably good condition my advice would be to snap it up.
Sometimes they appear on ebay very reasonably priced. ;)
