Sigh.

Do you have a manual for either pieces of equipment?
Do you have a tuner
SWR meter
Antenna analyser
Antenna switches

This is one of those questions that is like asking "How high is up?"

Help us help you.

Get the manuals for both/all pieces of equipment.  Read them thoroughly.  Follow the instructions to the letter.  THEN, if you have problems, tell us specifically what's going on.

Well, in a nut shell here is the hook up.

1. Connect RF output of amp to antenna (try a dummy load at first)  if you don't have one, that is your next purchase of ham gear.
2. Connect RF input of amp to RF output of radio
3. Connect phono plug shielded wire to HSEND on 746 to ant. relay jack on amp

If you do this, when you key the radio into transmit the relay in the amp should click into transmit.  if it does you are all set.

STEP4   Read the manual on how to load up the amplifier!!!

STEP 5  Order a second set of 811 tubes you will probably need them eventually. Sooner maybe later, that depends on how fast you learn how to properly load up the amp.  Good Luck and Happy New Year

I would modify what W1QJ said in line 1. Add a watt meter in line at the amp output, then the dummy load. You most definitely need a dummy load in the shack to learn how to properly load the amp.I would suggest using reduced transceiver drive and output on the amp as read on the watt meter until you get the hang of tuning the amp unless you are already good at it. Don't forget the spare tubes as previously suggested.

Happy New Year Lou and all.

I see a lot of that on eHam, but no surprise considering some of the sarcastic responses that are given. Why return for more abuse?

If you think the posts in this thread constitute abuse, you have really thin skin.

Some of the "sarcastic responses" are asked for!  For example, asking how to hook up a transceiver to an amplifier without reading either manual and trying to figure it out first.

Then, if there is a question about something not understood, ask.  One of the major problems with new hams these days is that they're too lazy to figure out things for themselves.
