At least 10 watts, and bigger battery compartment with a much longer battery life. It can be somewhat bigger to do this. I have worked 5 watt stations and they can be very marginal at times. Another 3db would help.

A bigger screen. Maybe to get this and better battery capacity, Put it in an FT290 box?

I would add, 220mhz TX, WX band receive, and a speech processor.  KG6BRG.

I dont have one...YET! I will be getting one next month. I really working QRP DX. I take my TS-2000 and run it on 5 or 10 watts when the propagation is good. I can see weather rx with SAME and a bigger display. To my limited knowledge that is what I would like to see added.

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild 817. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic transceiver. FT-817 will be that transceiver. Better than 817 was before. Better...stronger...faster."

Better watch it--that new 817 may accidently bend its own antenna!
