I have had an FTV-901R for a while. I bought it sight unseen, and
found it had a couple of issues. The 144 Mhz plug in had been
butchered with a pre amp mod that looked as if it had been fitted by a
drunken sailor. I have tidied that up and had put it to one side as I
slowly built up a period station based on my FT-902DM. It's now time
to get it working, but I am embarrassed to say I am not sure how to check the thing out properly.
I am connecting the
supplied multi cable to the octal socket on the back of my 902DM and
connect the other end to the transverter. I fit
the blanking plug from the 902 to the back of the 901R. I also fit the RF cables.[
I then try and follow the instruction manual for the transverter. I am
unsure whether, with the valve heaters turned on at the 902DM, the
901R should transmit an RF signal with a marker tone back to the 902DM,
to which I should then tune and peak the 902DM receiver.
This appears to have to be done with the
transverter switched OFF? Following that, going by my perception of how it
should operate, I turn OFF the heaters and turn on the
transverter? I hear no tone when tuning the 902DM to around 28.250
MHz. I may be being particularly dense, or it may be knackered, I need
to find out if it's user error or equipment trouble before going any
further. Anyone well versed in these things? Thanks.
