Softrock RX audio out networked via Skype?
« on: November 02, 2012, 04:57:36 AM »

I am following up some ideas in a post I made regarding remote audio
from a Softrock in another forum. Someone suggested using Skype.

I have it set up on my
main PC that runs the HDSDR software for my Ensemble II RX, and on a
laptop that connects in another room on a proper hard wired network. I
merely want to be able to listen to the audio from the Softrock receiver
running in my shack in other rooms, via the network cabling and a
laptop. I do not need to be able to control it at all.

I have both Skype installations set to auto answer. I can call the
main PC from my laptop and it answers. What I have been unable to
achieve so far is to get the main PC to send the audio from the
Softrock's HDSDR software across. I am damned hopeless with this sort
of thing I'm afraid :( I am running XP Corporate on both machines. The
sound card I use for HDSDR and Softrock Ensemble RC is the Delta 44.
How should i have the audio settings in Skype on the two computers to
grab the Softrock's audio and play it on the laptop's speakers please?

Right now I have the Skype implementation set to use M-Audo Delta 44
Multi on the PC running the Softrock, and the laptop has speakers and
microphone set to its on board sound card.

 Thanks.

Sorted, I have been told I need to use Virtual Audio Cable software to feed the audio from HDSDR into Skype on the PC running the SDR and use VAC on the laptop to "see" the audio. I had a registered copy of VAC so I tried this and it works fine, but it means two set ups of HDSDR audio devices, one conventional for normal listening, and one using VAC for remote listening. As someone on the Softrock reflector rightly said, building an SDR is the easy bit, walking the software minefield is the trick bit :) Hope this may help someone searching in the future.

You might try ipSound...  I use it with HRD, and it works very well...  Google for ipsound.exe.  Once I get my Softrock going I will be trying to use ipSound with it as well.

I have now found a FAR easier way of doing this. I run p2p Music Server on the main PC and that transmits the audio over the LAN cables. I use Windows Remote Desktop to view the HDSDR application on the main PC and I have full control and audio. Has been working fine for a while. Thanks.
