Advise for purchasing a mouse operated radio.
« on: March 31, 2013, 10:07:58 AM »

I'm looking for a 100W mouse operated transceiver with the EXTERNAL spectrum display (PC VGA compatible etc), would prefer a stand alone (W/O computer) if possible. I'm aware of the Flex Radio, looked at the 6000 series, but Flex is has moved the  delivery goal post, and not sure they won't repeat it.  Does the Elecraft K3 w/the spectrum adaptor operate w/the mouse, similar to the Flex? Does the Telepost spectrum adaptor for the K3 offer any advantages? I have read that the Telepost uses similar software to the Flex. What else fills the bill?

Thanks;

Have you looked at the Apache Labs products?

Wouldn't it be kinda hard training the mouse?   ;D

A lot of your standard radios can be operated from your desktop nowadays when programs like Ham Radio Deluxe and such. I'm not sure if any of the programs include spectrum analyzers and things of that sort, might be worth looking into though.

Darn!  Ya beat me to it.  I was going to say, "first, acquire a highly intelligent mouse who possesses an amateur license".

Not so bad now that they've dropped the CW requirement  ;)

Something like this:

with an external amplifier like this:

could be a good match to your stated requirements.

The K3/P3 doesn't operate in the manner you suggest.

Only a small part of the amateur market opts for "mouse control" equipment.

Most hams find there's an almost visceral connection between 'real knobs' and interacting with the 'ether.'
Some don't have that need, but, their numbers are fewer and so the availability of gear for them will be limited.
