HH5/KCØW DXpedition to Haiti
« on: April 27, 2013, 05:27:23 PM »

This July for 18 days.

I have secured a fantastic location in extreme northern Haiti for the DXpedition.............See, "that other", amateur radio website for updates.

Nice! I have Haiti on quite a few bands but I can use a few bandfills.

Any low band activity, Tom?

Hello Ryan,

Yes, 40 & 80 meters for sure..........I will bring provisions for 160 but I will probably have my hands full enough with 80 - 6 meters.

Nice to hear from you again Ryan.

I look forward to hearing you Tom. It's not often we hear Haiti in VK.
The Caribbean is not particularly difficult to work from here, but quite often, the ops focus on Northern Hemisphere and forget the South.
40 or 30 m your sunrise would be easiest, but any band will be welcome here.
See you on CW in July!

Hi Tom,

I'll second what Luke said. It's not often we hear stations from Central America/Caribbean. When we do, EU is usually over them. It would be great if you could occasionally ask EU/NA to QRX and ask for Asia (non-JA) / VK ZL. It would be a new one for me if i manage to work you.

I have one lonely phone contact with Haiti, I hope to get you in the log on at least a few bands I don't already have. Good luck and have a safe trip!

Thanks guys,

I will do my best regarding pileup management outside of North America & Europe...............I have no idea what to expect in terms of local QRM on the island due to faulty power line transformers, etc. This is my biggest fear. All bands might be noise free (doubtful) or all bands might be S9 +30 in local QRM.

From my previous experiences operating from the Caribbean things DO get noisy. Even more so when using vertical antennas like I will be.
