How to mount spring type octal socket
« on: June 02, 2013, 07:40:41 AM »

Hi there..

I am in process of restoring one old BC312 receiver and to preserve original wiring I must replace some of the noval socket with original octal sockets (and tubes also). I acquired original type of octal socket with mounting springs. Finally got to time to mount them I discover how hard it is..or maybe I do not know right technique..
Please advise me how to mount this type of socket on proper/easiest way..

Thax in advance

Remove spring - I use pliers, but a proper 'Circlip' plier is better.
Fit socket with correct orientation.
Refit spring by opening enough to get part into the socket groove, then gradually get all the spring into the socket groove. You might need some cuss words hear if things move.....
If the last bit of spring is still outside the groove, usually pushing down with a screwdriver will get it to spring into place.

I tryed this but without any success..main problem is in lack of free space in proximity of socket hole..maybe cuss words would help on this..

There's a definite  'knack' involved in fitting them. But the cuss words are almost mandatory!

These days, it is also a good thing to know how to cuss in several different Asian tongues as well...

However, there's one tech I know who can blister up a such a storm of invectives in his native Southern American English that any product from any nation seems to understand and gives right in!
