DB224e Pattern
« on: January 08, 2014, 02:11:58 AM »

I wonder if someone can tell me the pattern of a DB224e if top-mounted and two elements going east and two going west (or north and south.) ? Does it become a figure 8 or elliptical?

Thank you.

You won't get deep nulls on the sides, so it should be more elliptical.

That's what I am thinking. The only other option would be two yagi's and a phasing harness or power divider. I don't want to lose receive! We have MSF 5000's and they are awesome on receive. The purpose of this is that we secured a second repeater site and we're working on three and four. All will be voted and simulcast. This repeater sits at 6,400 feet and covers all of the area of site 3 except up into the foothills below us (doughnut hole) where we provide coverage for SAR as well as hikers and such.

Figure 8. Pattern would favor the two directions each set of bays is facing.  Elliptical would be all elements facing in the same direction... unless my mind is muddled tonight :)

Thank you for the reply. All elements facing in one direction is a cardiod pattern. We use that now and it works great. But because of voting/simulcasting we need to restrict the coverage of this repeater.

Brain fart, you are correct.  I was thinking elliptical was unidirectional.

Are the elements turned broadside, such as north/south for east/west communication? I can't find any info on this online.

No.  Point them in the direction you want to RX/TX.
