I'm currently stuck with using GlobalTuners.com's website as, like a born fool, I gave away all of my portable shortwave receivers when I was getting ready to move to SE Asia in 2009 and had to get rid of most of my stuff. I had a Sony ICF-SW1 and an ICF-6500. I really wish now that I'd kept one of those!  >:(

Just got a RSP1 SDR from SDRplay.  Have a LNR Precision EF-SWL on the way, and in the meantime I've got a short length of wire running of the center conductor of my coax in the back yard, about 8' off the ground.  Even with that, getting lots of stations (but a lot of noise too).  Once I get the ef-SWL up and grounded, it should be great.
My favorite SW rig was an ICOM R71A...really sorry I ever got rid of it.  Later had an R75, but the R71A seemed better.  Had a Kenwood R-2000 that I got at an auction for $25, ad it was good too, but sold that on Ebay for $300 about 6 years ago.

Where do I start? Chronological order - Kenwood R2000, JRC NRD 515, Winradio G303, couple of BCT8 scanners, Debeg 7313 (really a Skanti R5000 rebadged), Yaesu VR5000 (display U/S), Winradio G33DDC and about 12 'domestic' portables, Zenith T/O 3000-1, Sony Earth Orbiter, CRF 230 etc - and my little Degen 1103 for travelling. There's a Kenwood Ts120 in the cupboard somewhere. Two OCFD antennas, one directly connected to the G33DDC and the other through a Reaction Instruments 409-2 multicoupler to feed the other HF radios. Me, an addict? Nah!

Cheers - Martin, ZL2MC, Palmerston North.

Lately I've been doing most of my SW listening on a Grundig G2. Sometimes I also use a Realistic DX-350 to see what's on the SWBC bands. It's a pretty sensitive radio, and has a rich sound through the headphones. Analog tuned, you just sweep across the band and see what's on.

FT-857D running Sodira, with the output from Giovanni DeFilippo's (figo1492) Yaesu filter slot 455 kHz to 12 Khz converter. The interesting thing with Sodira is that you can decode AM and FM, DRM, do ECSS, and even C-Quam.

I am constantly travelling to three cities where my family has estate here in Brazil, and wherever I go I always carry a DEGEN DE1103 for shortwave listening connected to a loop antenna I regard as indispensable under the heavy QRM conditions of Brazilian middle sized cities, and an ICOM IC-R7 as a scanner for air band and utilities. I also like to lit up a 1956 Hammarlud HQ-140x which needs a little tlc but works fully. In another city, a very small one I mostly use a Realistic DX-440 for sw listening. It is my favorite radio for DX. It is very sensitive and selective and its image rejection is very good. I also enjoy its audio quality and volume which allows me to listen to the BBC as I attend to my duties. I am sort of a hoarder or small collector for I find it hard to part with my rigs, for each one of them has unique characteristics I learned to enjoy and admire and later became familiar with.

A zenith transoceanic d7000y.

It spent the past forty+ years in storage and was barely used. it belonged to a friend that gave it to me as payment for painting two porches (4 or 5 hours of labor) over the summer.

Good deal eh?

Even after collecting several old and new HF radios, the Drake R8 with external speaker, tone control full left (bass) and sync. detector engaged is just unbeatable.  It is the closest thing to hi-fi for SWL'ing.

That said, my newly acquired and refurbished pre-war Hammarlund HQ-120x has the benefit of warming the shack !

Hello all,
I'm using my Grundig Sattelit 750, which is a very nice rig. I am a Ham (KD8WKI ), but a Tech, so operating with a little Yaesu FT-60R and don't really have a pro type communications receiver. The 750 works well for me though, hooked up to an over the roof wire antenna, which a Ham buddy of mine was kind enough to rig for me.
I also have a Grundig S450DLX, which I like as well. Rather..I will have..as the volume pot went bad and I could not hear anything. I contacted Eaton, and even though I no longer had the receipt, and the radio is years out of warranty..Eaton is sending me a brand new radio at no charge! Can't beat that for customer service!
Cheers,
KD8WKI
