ICOM 706. I do everything with my 706.  A cup of coffee helps too.

That all depends where I'm listening from.  In the backyard around the campfire I will use my PL380 or PL880.  In the bedroom I'll listen using my DX-R8T that lives on my night stand.  In the kitchen, dining room or living room I will use my ICF-2010.  In the ham shack I will use my FTDX3000 (my personal favorite).

How would you describe the receive capabilities of the PL800 vs the Yaesu 3000 - features, sensitivity/selectivity/performance, and sound quality?

My choice of radio at any given time is driven by the task at hand.  All of the radios I own have their strengths.  I won't define aspects of performance as a weakness unless a particular radio is sub par in it's areas of design.  My choices are listed in alphabetical order as follows:

Alinco DX-R8T
CCrane Skywave
Sony ICF-2010
Tecsun BCL-2000
Tecsun PL-380
Tecsun PL-880
Yaesu FT DX 3000

Not a single clinker in the bunch, just different.  I enjoy using them all.

Any chance you would be willing to describe the receiving differences (and similarities) between the PL880 and the Yaesu 3000?

Used to be with either coffee of beer. Now with age and heart palpitations neither one. Maybe a Gator Aid or a Choc-o-la now.   ;D

I mostly use a Ten-Tec RX-340 or a Ten-Tec RX-320. Occasionally I use my Yaesu FRG-100. I have multiple wire antennas plus a receiving loop which I have on a TV rotator for best reception. That is just my SWL setup!

For SWL I was using a 1938 Zenith 12S267 until I sold it yesterday. Now I'll use my 1935 Philco 16B and for real SWL a SDRPlay with a dedicated 20m dipole plus my other Ham gear.

I'm going to miss this radio.

I am using a MFJ8100 Regen Radio, and XHDATA D-808.
SW condition is not good recently. So just listening to AIR Band, MW, LW and FM a lot.

Although I have some newer rigs in the shack for amateur use, my favorite table rigs are an older Icom IC-761 and IC-765 transceivers.
They are very nice analogue rigs with great sensitivity, excellent filtering and a very clear non fatiguing audio, connected to a full range mini speaker SW stations playing music is very nice.
The IC-761 and 765 also have good sensitivity on MW band and I can usually pick up a few New Zealand MW stations   (1800 - 2200 Klm) that are stronger than a competing Australian station in West Australia say 3000 klm from me.
To the North sometimes Indonesian staitons can be heard between fades of distant lower powered Australian rural stations.
My Icom IC-7410's are also an excellent MW rig with very good sensitivity and the filters can be wide for great fidelity on stronger MW and SW stations, as well as having the ability to taper sidebands to eliminate strong interfering signals.
When travelling in remote areas of Australia other than a Kenwood TS-480Sat for HF comms I carry an old Zenith Transoceanic 3000 and a Tecsun PL-600
The Tecsun is quite sensitive and works well however for fidelity the Zenith is King and it still appears to be quite sensitive on SW after almost 50 years. Not as hot on MW but quite good on FM.

Currently use a Icom R75 that I restored from non-working and installed all of the Kiwa-type modifications (detailed in the I.O./Yahoo R75 Group) and a SDRPlay RSP2 Pro.  Antennas are a my ham radio 40M-10M 46' base-loaded sloper, two PAR EF-SWL oriented at right angles to each other, and a Quantum QX Loop 2.0.

I especially like AM BCB DX.  My modded R75 has had its MW attenuation circuit neutralized and is very good for BCB and LW DX.  Comparing this radio to the RSP2 Pro, the R75 is more effective at these frequencies.  The RSP2-P has a tendency to overload from local stations and attenuation does not usually improve this.  However, the panadapter view is fantastic for spotting signals and then I can check them out with both radios and choose the best for listening.  The R75 is more sensitive and with a good 6 kHz filter (installed in the first IF stage in addition to the OEM 6 kHz 2nd IF filter), is very good for DXing MW.

Have owned and used a Drake R8A, Racal 6790/GM and Flex 5000 for SWLing in the past.  Loved them all.

Depending on what it is I'm trying to listen to, or just what mood I happen to be in, I use the following:
Philco 16B tombstone, 11 tubes, truly an amazing radio, best sound of them all.
Tecsun PL-880 for travel, all bands
Grundig Satellit 700 for travel, all bands
Panasonic RF-2200 AM Dxing
Panasonic RF-2600 AM Dxing
CCrane EP Pro AM Dxing and shop radio

Most of the time on the Par LF-SWL, PK's Loop when portable.

The DX394 can overload. Perhaps an attenuator ahead of the radio would help. I use my DX394 off an indoor wire, and haven't had the image issue -- but I've read about it online. It's a fairly high gain radio.

I usually listen with either a Kenwood R-5000 that is loaded with the extra filters or a Kenwood R-2000.  They are connected to a Pixel loop or an attic mounted 20 meter loop.

Recently ran across an R-1000 and picked it up to go with it's two big brothers.

I also have an SDR play but find that I usually prefer the old school Kenwood's for just tuning around.

Nice group!

Yes, I also have different receivers for different needs. Agree that some rigs perform better in certain areas.

LW/NDB DXing - Bearcat DX-1000 & Dansk M-3000 (also known as a Marconi Oceanic)
MW DXing - DX-1000
HF Utiilities - Drake R7A
SW Broadcast Bandscanning -  Sony ICF-6800W using whip antenna
SWLing - Lowe HF225 Europa & Mckay Dymek DR22C
All Around Rx - Cubic CDR-3250

I alo have a Drake SPR-4 but haven't gotten around to installing all the extra frequency crystals I've picked up. It may relegate the Sony to being my "portable" instead of my Panasonic RF-B65.  I just wish the Sony had longwave coverage.

I love vintage gear, obviously!
