BBC World Service is on as well, and Radio China and Radio Romania are always on with very strong signals and nice audio.
SWL is dead? No, I don't think so. They are alive and well.
Very little of my SWLing these days focuses on broadcasters. When the 90M and 60M bands started going away, so did a lot of my interest in SWBC. It was fun fighting lightning crashes in the phones in search of a rare transequatorial catch.
I primarily concentrate on utes, clandestines, bootleggers, pirates and all the other off-the-beaten-path stuff roaming around MF/HF and up through 40MHz or so. To wit, there's no shortage of them if you know where and when to look.
Yes, there are definitely changes on 90m and 60m. Many broadcast stations stopped their programmes, and it is quite sad.
I wonder if they are mostly these poor broadcast stations with no funds and no support, and want to do something else trying to make revenues? Why suddenly they would stop what they have been doing for years is beyond my understanding.
Having said that, I just found out, that Radio Japan's scheduled program on SW to Europe in English language is set for 5:00-5:30am in the morning from the Relay station in Austria. I mean how many people would be waking up to listen to a radio station at 5:00 am in the morning? And they use Relay station from Austria rather than broadcasting direct from Japan? That just ruins their image as an interesting station to listen to. Some one on the top in that organisation is not doing right things and making bad decisions for the organisation I feel.
But there are still plenty die-hard bc stations on 6 - 15Mhz. I was hearing many DX BC stations on 15Mhz yesterday in the mid afternoon, and I was using only a small vintage portable from 1970s with a whip antenna.
For me, my main interest is the BC stations, because that is what I have started SWL with.
But I can see your point that if you are into, utils, pirates, clandestine and bootlegs, then you definitely need the best SW receivers and scanners with multimode and the best sensitivity and selectivity as well as good DX antennas.
NRD 515 and AOR 3030 would be ideal receivers for them.
