I will pay, and happily so, $200 dollars for the first email that I receive with settings that will get my Yaesu ftdx 5000 and it's SCU-17 USB interface unit to transmit AND receive FSK. I have $6,000 radio with fantastic filters and can not use them in AFSK.  I have spent over two months searching for answers and no luck, my patience has run out and I'm too old to devote the rest of my life to getting it going.  I have searched most forums and youtube to no avail.

I purchased a brand new computer AMD10 running Windose 8 so as to know the comports had nothing to do with Prolific drivers and I downloaded the drivers recommended by Yaesu for their SCU-17.

I have a licensed version of HRD 6.1.

I will post the name of the forum member who gets me going on FSK so you will know it's not a scham.

Why am I doing this?  Frustration first of all and second of all, what the hell good are RTTY modes in new equipment if you can't use there filters?  Its just wasted resources and added expense.  But let me say this, my 5000 has never been swamped by close/loud stations so the filters work beautifully when you can use them.

I will make this same post on every forum I can get it on to increase my odds of success. Please no speculators.  Please contact me only if you have HRD6.1 + a Yaesu FTDX5000 and a Yaesu SCU-17 I am a member of  WNYDXA and I'm sure they will hold my feet to the fire if I don't pay up !!
My email address is rayswanATrochester.rr.com  if you want to mail your settings and tips  **or** you can send me your phone number and the best time to call.  I have a phone headset at the radio/computer so we can get through your suggestions very quickly.

You could buy a lot of ice cream or beer for $200.00 or even donate it to your club LOL

Obviously you did not read my response in the other thread where you asked the exact same question. To save you the trouble of going back to look it up, I will post it here:

Suggestion #1) If you purchased HRD less than a year ago, you also purchased technical support from them. Have you contact them yet? Here is their contact page: http://www.ham-radio-deluxe.com/contact/default.html. While they may not be able to help you, part of your $100 registration fee was for a year of support from the folks that wrote the program so why not use them?
Did you contact HRD support? What did they say? If you did not contact them, why not? You paid for support so why not use it?

Suggestion #2) Join the FTDX5000MP group on Yahoo: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ftdx5000mp/info. There are currently 384 members who use one variation or another of the FT5000. As good as eHam is, you are much more likely to run into someone using your combination of hardware and software in that group than in the digital section of this forum.
Did you join this group on Yahoo? If not, why not? You are much more likely to run across someone using that combination of hardware and software in that group than on eHam or any other generic amateur radio forum.

EDIT: I take PayPal!

Yes please answer these questions. If you do not have the HRD support any longer you can get it for half of what you paid for the program originally. This will be quite a bit less than $200.  ;)

The HRD new Beta specifically says it supports your Yaesu interface. The HRD programmers are waiting for your call. Instead of releasing your frustration here on eham and getting useless DXlab suggestions, go cry on the HRD programmers shoulder. IF they do not help you then come back and report here.

I doubt that this is an HRD problem.  I used to have an FTdx5000 with the SCU-17 and I could never get it to work on fsk.  Tried with at least 3 different digital programs (not including HRD) and no luck.  He should be talking to Yaesu support.

Thanks Wayne.  I did call Yaesu support and the result was nearly laughable.  Since they don't support any "software" you can't prove that it works together or does not.  I've sent a copy of my reward offer to Yaesu SALES and not Tech support.  Sales may realize they have a problem if they are selling something that generally does not work then it may not be good for their reputation.  I have a call in to HRD, it won't surprise me to hear the problem is in the hardware !!  Either my brand new radio, brand new SCU-17 or brand new computer.  At any rate, it's way over my head.

Is there some reason on God's green earth why the manufacturer won't include an interface built into the radio for all the larger the circuit boards are?  Could it be the nickles and dimes issue, I'll gladly pay the extra $5.00 for components.  Wake up engineers, how long will we have to live with either fsk on radios that can't really use it of $2.00 soundcards external to multi-thousand dollar rigs?  Maybe Yaesu could at least give us some extremely simple software so we can see it work before trying other software.  At least we'd know where to look for our problems.  Right now I don't know if it's a rig/USBinterface problem, a USBinterface/computer problem or a rig/interface AND software problem?

Did you try using a different computer with different operating system, like XP or Vista? Or even Linux?

W4KYR,  Yes, thanks, I did.  Had it on an XP Pro machine and a new virgen Asus AMD10 machine just to make sure the xp machine wasn't somehow at fault.

I know it has been a while, but did you make sure the switch inside the SCU-17 was set the same as your software was expecting for FSK & PTT?  S1001 - one position is PTT on RTS with FSK on DTR and the other position is PTT on DTR with FSK on RTS.

Just a suggestion but have you considered a different interface. The Timewave Navigator company is owned by one of the people that works with HRD and might be one of the owners but not sure.  Timewave has a great customer support. I usually call in the later afternoon to speak with the owner, great individual!  The  Navigator is the interface I use even though it's an FT-2000 and it works as smooth as silk.

I feel your pain. I have a Yaesu 1000D that I wanted to use with a Navigator and HRD to send MT63. After two months of fighting with it, probably 8 hours on the phone with HRD tech support, three phone calls to Timewave's tech support, sending the Navigator back to them so they could check and make sure thre wasn't a hardware problem, I gave up.

The good news is that when my new TS 990S arrived I plugged in the USB cable and within about 10 minutes I was MT63ing my little heart out.

You should have bought a SignaLink USB, saved some money and had an easy setup.

VE3FMC, I did, it wouldn't fly either,  thats why I bought the SCU17.  Don't know if you read previous post but all is working fine with FSK RTTY after an upgrade of HRD and of 5k's firmware.

Yes, I agree, works perfectly on all my radios including the FTdx-5000MP's

Add a simple RS232 cable and you have full functionality with any digital mode and HDR!

I think this is funny as can be!

Mostly because I've been through the same mess with the FTDX 3000.  So, I called Yaesu support after reading similar forum posts elsewhere, such as the FTDX 3000 user group.  I asked the same questions there and was either pointed to extremely long dissertations on how to get MMTY running when I asked about HRD, or was told I don't need an external sound card.  These radios are supposed to have the equivalent of the SCU-17 built into them.  I've been told by many that I don't need any sort of interface box because the sound card in the rig is better than all of them.

So, I asked Yaesu support a simple question.  Have you ever interfaced to any of the popular digital mode software?  The summary of their response was that they used the SCU-17 to get HRD and Fldigi to run, but they used Signalink to get Digipan to run.  Evidently, the SCU-17 and Digipan don't play together.  I'm just talking digital soundcard interface and not rig control.  I didn't bother to ask what's wrong with the internal to the rig sound card.  Don't get me wrong, I think both the 3000 and 5000 are super rigs.
