Delhi/TACO Model DMX-68 64 Foot Tower used?
« on: July 16, 2014, 01:44:38 PM »

Got an opportunity for a  DMX-68 64' tower local used purchase but haven't been able to find any reviews on same.

Spec says 3 sq. ft. wind load which seems like anything except a vertical would be too much.  Is that correct?

any other comments or advice welcome.

Go to the taco communications web site and you'll get all the specs, installation instructions, etc.

Sounds like a very lightweight TV-antenna type "tower" more like a mast.

I used to have a regular duty Delhi DMX-44 which was the 40 foot model also rated for 3 sq. ft. All I can say is that while in the broadcast business I knew several professional riggers that stated that the Delhi towers were way under rated. We used several in point-point VHF/UHF STL applications in some rather demanding locations. My own DMX-44 had a Cushcraft A3 at the top, a six element home brew 6m yagi about three feet above it, and an 11 element 2m yagi about 4 feet above that. Here in Nova Scotia we get all kinds of nor'easters and the driver element of the A3 actually broke before the tower suffered any problems. I retired it a couple years ago when I upgraded to a 64 foot Trylon Titan 500. The Delhi was over 30 years old and had served it's purpose well.

I suppose I should note that the tower that i was using was the freestanding type and was not bracketed to anything. I forgot about the DMX line of bracketed towers.
