------------------------------------------------------
September 14th, Saturday morning, we heard from the Station Captain at FS 77 that the gate to NV Station was open. He sent Rescue 77 over and they discovered that North Valley Station radio room had been burglarized.
The LAPD, who arrived shortly thereafter, took a police report #191613942. I also contacted the ACS Command Staff and they informed OVB
Assistant Chief Rose and BC12 Ward, who arrived to see the damage.
The radios were ripped out of their brackets and some of the new shelving was smashed. Grafitti was left on the wall. The Astron power supply was dumped on the floor and may have been damaged.
The approximate value of the stolen equipment is $7,500. The damage to the door and shelving is approximately $1,500. As we go through the inventory we may discover that other items are missing.

What was the LAFD doing with ham radio equipment?
-
Exactly my thoughts !!! Hmmmmmm
-
Probably for the LAFD Auxiliary Communications Service http://lafdacs.org/
-
LA County Fire and Sheriff departments have long used hams for Red Cross and other aid assistance in fire and other weather disasters.

Didn't CA recently announce they no longer were using hams in emergency service communications?

Hmmm... sounds like an "inside job". Who else would know about or want that equipment?
Not exactly an easy sale on the street corner.
I guess there are shady ham ops too!

Somebody posts a legitimate for request Hams to be on the lookout for some gear that was stolen and what do we do? We snipe at him like third graders on the playground!
Enough said.

I hope my post wasn't construed as negative. I was just curious about California and their relationship with amateur radio operators these days. I recall seeing a news story regarding that state that said they would no longer be needing/using hams to assist with emergency coms.

I think CA just stopped funding some repeaters and the story got blown out of proportion. Los Angeles Fire and Police always have had EOC's with ham equipment.

No that did not happen. Although one ham in particular posted far and wide a false video and news post claiming that.
