The folks at SAQ streamed a very interesting video from yesterday's UN Day transmission using the Alexanderson Alternator on 17.2 kHz. The video is available at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OErGFaT1esI
The first 40 minutes of the video are the most technically interesting, with the test transmissions and some impressive contact closures corresponding to the "vvv de SAQ" at around 23:50 elapsed time. The perfect straight key CW and the message itself is visible from about 31:55 onwards, and there is a very brief look outside the station at the antenna feeders etc. (More station technical detail is available on the SAQ website at https://alexander.n.se/?lang=en) The video's sound track is a bit challenging but the noise underlines well the environment in which the volunteers are working.
This may well be the most impressive historical radio station in existence, and congratulations and thanks to those who keep it functional.

Peter, Ive monitored their Christmas Eve and other transmissions several times over the years that propagation and their equipment cooperates, and enjoyed their several videos.
What amazes me is how well 500-750' Beverages work on 17.2 kHz, they even have some directivity but are far better on the LF BCB and chasing NDB's.

Wow, what a very interesting station, amazing. They never mentioned the power output.

200 KW. Google has lots of info.

Thanks for that, maybe I just couldnt hear them talk to good in certain parts.

Due to the alternators idiosyncrasies it often runs at reduced power
