Was CW used a lot in MARS ?
Was it used as much as SSB?
How about now, is CW still used in MARS?

Thanks in advance

Long time ago. I was in Army Mars during my high school days in the late 60s. Only equipment I had was a Heath DX60 tx and Drake 2B Rx. We had several cw nets during the week, plus we could check into the ssb nets using cw. Lost track of them when I joined USAF and their program was ssb and rtty. Lost track of them, but I think cw was dropped when DOD dropped cw.
Many of the hams who mentored me in the 60s were ex airborne radio operators very cw proficient.

I was a Navy MARS member for 24.5 years (1991 to 2015) and there
was some CW activity and some RTTY in my early years on the roster.

About 50 years ago (Can it possibly have been that long ago?) USAF MARS used CW, however one needed special permission. Since I did not have an SSB rig that covered frequencies significantly removed from the Ham bands, I was not allowed to use CW on a frequency several kHz away from the band edge which my transceiver could cover.

I used mostly CW in the mid 50's and drove to Mitchel AFB, a few towns away for my goodies which included a pair of worked hard put away wet BC-610's which was many of the parts I needed for my first KW AM/CW amp at age 17.
