I'm an old timer (84 yrs.) considering what will probably be my last mobile installation. My car is a 2001 Lexus RX 300 SUV. Rig will be a Kenwood TS 440 SAT. Antennas will be Hamsticks and a shortened 102" CB whip for 10 meters. My main concern is RF effect on the on board computer. Any info or tips on my installation (especially mounting of antenna) will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all for reading my post. Clyde, W7QHH

Stray RF on a 20+ yr old car isn’t likely to affect anything except maybe the EFT pump.

Your primary concern is RFI *from* the car, not *to* the car. Maybe mock up the installation and see how it plays before you go nuts running cable and hard mounting things.

Agreed. solving RFI from the car will likely be the first job. Bonding and grounding will help the most, but some application of Mix 31 snap on ferrites may be needed. However the older the car the less likelihood of problems.

I almost crap myself when at night the back door of my old Toyota began to open during the TX on 40-ty. The headlights can also turn on themselves. No significant RFI from the car.
