I am attempting to update my FT -710 firmware. The sd card formats normally in my PC, but when inserted into the radio I get an sd card error message. Does anyone have any ideas about what's going on? I have disconnected all USB connections as well as my external monitor.

Read the FT710 instructions ie RTFM. You format the card in the FT710, not your PC.

That's the main error, I press format on the radio and get the error message

You could try a new sd card,

I tried 3, 2 64GB, and one 128. I have a 32GB coming tomorrow
-
I guess you try a reset, you have probably already thought of that.

Indeed I have.

3. Copy the firmware to an SD card that has been previously formatted in the FT-710.
Note: Copy the file directly under the “FT-710” folder. Do not copy it into the “Capture”, “MemList” “Menu” or “PlayList” folder. If the file is copied to a location other than under the “FT-710” folder, the FT-710 cannot be updated, as it will not recognize the file.
The folder configuration on the SD card formatted with FT-710 is shown below.

Thanks. What it turned out to be is the radio was tested on SD cards not larger than 32GB. The new 32GB card I bought worked no problem.
