hello..
not a repair not a shop so not need 1000s of parts.
looking for a idea of good base list of caps and resistors to get for repairing valve radios .
like hallicrafters s40 style and the old floor radios from the 30s to 40s ???
so caps be .01 .05 so on 450v to 600v .. normal caps and what on electriolics ? spelt rite iam sure not lol
resistors ... bradly style ? or new style ?
looked around Mr Carlson's channel. didnt see anything..
thanks ..

I wouldn't go out and spend a bunch of money just to stock your shelf. Instead buy the stuff you need at the time and always buy a few extra to start stocking your shelf. Caps that handle higher voltages present in older radios are not cheap. After doing a few jobs you will learn what you really need for the type of rebuild you do.
Some of the bigger parts suppliers like Mouser and Digikey do not have the stock of older parts that they use to have. There are some guys that cater to the vintage radio people.

As one who has done a LOT of building and repairing the past 60 years, I second PJM's suggestion 100%.
When I built something, I always ordered spare solid-state devices. This guarantees that none of the originals will fail.
Sure wish I could cash in all of my "spares."

These days you are more likely to find 0.047 uF (or 47 nF)
instead of 0.05 uF, due to the change to standard values.
Don't worry, it should work just as well. Smaller values
are likely to be nF or pF, instead of mickey-mikes.
For AC/DC receivers, a 250V rating may be good enough.
For others, check the B+ voltage to see: receivers often didn't
use as high of plate voltage as transmitters did.

K8PJM...............
yeah normaly i would agree. but then you payin more shipping cost. i can save 20 to 30 bucks in shipping order at once
not sayin iam ordering 100 pieces per value lol . like 10 or 15 per .. found a place that is fair priced in the 70 cents to 1 dollar range on each piece. not like that guy up north with a 20 dollor min order .. at 2 bucks a cap . lol
WB6BYU .... i couldnt remember 100% what it was on the values. knew there was something could be used in place of. lil above below say the .05 .. but voltage has to stay same ... or above ..
ill probley do the 01 047 few others.. probley be good to look at the radio lol but was just tryin to get a jump start on spring... still have to build the work bench and such ..
fun fun fun
thanks to all info tho for sure..

Personally, I would invest in a decent multi-meter, such as a Fluke. I would also buy a capacitor tester, such as the Peak ESR and LCR meters.
For a spectacular demonstration of why you don’t want to use a Chinese multimeter on anything more than 12V, this video will open your eyes, the sparks fly at 6 mins in!

Only look to change faulty or out of specification parts, otherwise you end up stocking a lot of expensive parts that probably won’t ever be needed.

What to stock?
That's a sticky topic.
I tend to purchase assortments
Not so much hundreds of a value but 10 or 15 of each value covering a large range.
That is the personal stock for ny repairs or experiments.
Now the parts for the Ozark Patrol regenerative receivers I kit out are kept completely separate.

I have had good results buying assortments ("kits") of 1/2W and 1W metal film resistors on eBay. 10 per value or similar. I check with meter prior to installation and yet to find a bad one.
I also have bought gobs of 0.01 disc caps (blue color), cost almost nothing and again no problems.
