I recently posted this inquiry in Elmers with minimal response so I am reposting my question here.
I own an Alinco DJ-MD5 and would like to access DMR Plus. I am told that there are Pi reflectors, but I do not know how to access them from my rig. Is anyone familiar with this Alinco rig and its capabilities on DMR Plus or do I need to purchase different equipment? If access is possible with my current rig, please provide a step by step description as I am new at DMR and find it somewhat challenging to my analog brain! Thanks

May I suggest that you look for an Alinco user group. That may be a much better source for the information you are asking for. Step by step instructions are usually found in a MFG manual or maybe online.
Good luck, Gary W0CKI

It would require a hotspot or repeater connected to the DMR Plus network. The radio itself cannot connect directly.

As a DMR newbie, what is attracting you to DMR Plus specifically? The above answers are correct, you either need a hotspot or a nearby repeater connected to that network. Having access to both here, I don't see a compelling reason to choose DMR Plus over Brandmeister. Nothing says you can't use any network, maybe start with whatever it is you can access first and refine your operating choice from there.

With regard to the question posed by K5LXP, the reason why I need access to DMR plus is that a net that I want to participate in switched to DMR plus from Brandmeister and being a newbie to DMR, I am unsure how to step by step, get my Alinco radio to access the hotspots/ repeaters/ reflectors needed to participate in the net. That is why I posted this call for help. If I need to acquire different equipment, I need to know what specifically to acquire.
Thanks again to all who replied.
