Title: Can I get 5VDC from USB jacks on back of IC-7610?
Post by: KW4CQ on March 12, 2023, 11:35:27 AM
I need to power an external device with +5vdc at around 300ma and have it turn on and off with AC power on my IC-7610.  Do the USB 1 and 2 jacks on the back of the 7610 let you do this?  Icom manual not clear on this point.
Thanks and 73, Bob

Not sure about the ICOM specifically, but in general, the specifications for a USB 1.0 and 2.0 standard downstream port, delivers up to 500 mA or 0.5A. Also, with a USB 3.0, it can provide up to 900mA or 0.9A, which translates into 4.5 watts. These power output specifications are a rating based on the 5 volts from each standard output.  I use my PC usb port to power a LED desk lamp in lieu of the original AA cells it originally came with.

Does it make sense to use a multi thousand $$ radio to replace a $5 dollar wall wart?

That's the one I have, with no brand name.  I've been using it a few years now.
