Title: Camp Albert Butler alumni, this is your thread
Post by: K2WPM on March 26, 2023, 07:06:28 PM
In North Carolina, for many years, there was a two-week ham radio camp for kids, Camp Albert Butler.  I attended in 1969 (my parents tricked me, they heard about a concert called Woodstock, scheduled nearby for that summer), and it was a blast!  In two weeks, 13 wpm and General Class.  Pool, hikes, cabins...

Any other alumni?

I remember Woodstock very well. But it was in New York State at a place called Max Yasgur farm in the town of Bethel NY  very close to the town of Woodstock NY.
It wasn’t really near North Carolina.

Missed Woodstock but probably would have loved to run around naked back then (but not today...LOL).  But I DID make it to Camp A-B in 1962. Great memories (fading...LOL) and folks there! The camp is no longer there. There are several attendees on the web. I posted a similar thread a few years ago and was surprised at the results.

Hey SWMAN - I think you missed the point.  He was living in NY and they sent him off to NC so he would not be there for Woodstock :)

HRL,
Ok. Thanks for the explanation. It’s not really the first time I missed the point. Hi, Hi.

I wonder, is there any similar type ham radio camp today?
Web searches yielded little.  Camp Shohola in the Poconos offers a little bit.
Maybe kids today aren't so interested in ham radio to give up two weeks of their summer for it.
