Greetings all:
I know this question has be asked and answered several times but I've finally given up finding the answer on my own.
I have just spent the past 1.5 hours trying to transfer a photo from Photobucket to a reply here on eHam.net without success.
I have tried everything I can think of, which includes the "copy" links on the right side of My Photobucket page, reading all the eHam Help files that I can find, checking my notebooks for step-by-step instructions and each time, failed.
Will someone please walk me through this process? Hopefully I will have presence of mind to detail the process in one of my notebooks for the next time I need to use it.
Many thanks in advance.

What I recommend trying
1. open / visit the website where the photo is and open it up so it is in your browser
2. right click on the opened photo and left click "Copy image URL"
3. In the eham reply box, click the image icon -- it is right below the B for bold and above the left most smiley :)
4. hit the 'Control v' keys together (or right click 'paste' -- but Control v is easier to get the copied URL between the photo code)
-
The problem the OP has might be with using photobucket to get the correct URL (mentioned by K9AIM at step 2) - it's not always obvious.
a) The URL (again this is photobucket-centric) should look like http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/... .jpg
b) If it has .html at the end, it's no good.
When that correct URL is embedded between Bulletin Board Code for images [ i m g ][ / i m g ] it should appear as a picture in your post
To get the correct URL there are several options. Three of them follow:
1) Open the picture fully for viewing on photobucket and follow K9AIM's instructions (right click the photo...)
2) Open the picture fully for viewing on photobucket and use the "Links to share this photo" on the right and choose the "Direct" link
3) If you are looking at the album (where there might be several pics, and are smaller), move your mouse over the pic you want, then click the settings (the "gear") that appears at the top right and choose "Get Links"
Now, to add to the confusion, you can either place the link manually inside the Bulletin Board Code [ i m g ][ / i m g ] or grab the link photobucket calls "IMG codes" and paste that directly into your post. There are some other options for some of this but this should get you started.
The text in your post should look something like this ... with NO spaces!)
[ I M G ] h t t p : / / i 2 4 1 . p h o t o b u c k e t . c o m / a l b u m s / c o d e / a l b u m n a m e / t o w e r _ 6 4 0 _ 4 8 0 . j p g [ / i m g ]
Click "Preview" to make the picture appear
To prove it works:

edit: photo reduced from 1024X768 to 640X480
-
it would also help if you went in your camera and shrunk the dimensions to 640x480 before shooting, so as not to blow up the page causing everyone to have to sideways scroll to read a guy's post :D
-
Ha ha - you need a bigger monitor
But I feel your pain...

Ha ha - you need a bigger monitor
But I feel your pain...
hey you may be right I never thought of that :D it's a 24' diag. though...not too small?.
-
Depends on the resolution you've set it to. My monitor's 22" but 1680 X 1050 (its max) and even with the forums stuff around the 1024X768 tower pic, it displayed just fine.
Also, you probably don't really want to change the reso on the camera (and thus the original pic) - you probably want to resize it just for the forum. :-)
-
Thanks guys. I have been able to get a URL between the (http://) but no picture.
I know anyone can click on the URL and see the picture but I want it so whenever someone reads my reply they will also see the photo.
I've done this before but for some reason I've had a mind fart and nothing is coming back to me. As I said, I spent 1.5 hours dealing with this.
I'll go through these suggestions again tomorrow.
BTW, I always resize my photos to 1024 X 768 before storing them in my photo album....both on my HDD and on Photobucket.
-
Be sure the URL is a .jpg and not a .html

AIM: Ok followed your instructions and was rewarded with a "link" between the (http://). What I was hoping for was the photo.
However, after hitting SAVE at the bottom of the "comment" page the photo appeared. BINGO! Many thanks........
BTW, the photo is a "selfie" showing the consternation my brother and I had while trying this out. That's me on the right in case you're interested. His name is Allen too. Mom told us later since we was twins she couldn't be bothered trying to figure out which was which.

Re: K8AXW
I'm impressed with your high and tight, were you with NCIS intelligence div. at one time?
-
Actually I was with Army intelligence for awhile. I was offered a job with a government intelligence agency but found I could make a lot of money here in WV digging outhouse pits. When my brother Allen joined me we branched out to outhouse construction itself. I've never looked back!

Well, probably you never looked back, but I'm sure you kept an eye upwards.

Government intelligence? How long ago was that? ;)

Did you do a preview? I think that'd make the photo appear.
-
MG:
The Photobucket (Or wherever you have you image stored) URL will appear between the "Image Icon brackets."
Learned the final step is: "Image will appear after you click SAVE."
-
Yes, animations can be used, too.

-
Can any sound (music) be added?
-
Don't think there's any way to imbed YT video. Probably not sound either. But animated gifs are possible. Give this a little time to load:

-
Nice. Think everyone in the US was shown that bridge in school.
-
everyone in the US was shown that bridge in school.
The web's full of animations of better construction that I GUARANTEE you weren't shown in school :)
EHam's bulletin board likely has the ability to directly display YT videos but it's probably disabled. I just tried quite a few ways to embed one but nothing worked. Probably just a matter of management ticking something in the control panel.
-
Sorry for the late response. No, didn't do a "preview." Found that by hitting SAVE the photo appeared. TY.

No matter when....the qualifications have never changed!

I don't use photo bucket or what ever it is-----Cant we just upload a photo from our picture gallery on our computer?
Will see if it works------- I doubt it will! ???
[img][C:\Users\larry\Pictures\offshore1.png]
------Yup---- don't work---
Where's the upload form computer button at?
-
Frankly it's been so long since I've posted this I forget. I can suggest you try it and see what happens. If that fails, repost and I'll go through the procedure again and see where you're having trouble.

After using Photobucket for many years to host my photos used in these threads and other sites, they have gone to a pay service for many users. They want to charge me $399.00 per year to host my half dozen to a dozen pictures I may post per year. What other reliable, free hosting services are available? Photobucket used to be great, but within the past year, the site plasters ads all over the users library pages making navigation very difficult.
-
Switched from Photobucket to Imjur and struggling.
I can post the URL http://imgur.com/a/1sK98
Or the URL between the img start/end (http://imgur.com/a/1sK98)
Hitting preview I see the link for the former and nothing for the latter.

Is it possible to post a photo from Instagram?
-
Someone, somewhere posted this url and I haven't had time to look into it more, but this may be an alternative... meaning no guarantees from me about it. YMMV, standard caveats, etc.
https://postimages.org/ (https://postimages.org/)

Thanks,Appreciate the info.
-
It does appear to be that a user can be blacklisted from posting photos. FYI.
-
I tried all these schemes, but my computer somehow doesn't have those "cues" or "tabs" mentioned.
It would be so simple if "E-Ham" operated like my e-mail. After composing an e-mail, I click on the icon which takes me to a screen for choosing where to find the picture. One more click for "upload" and it's attached to my e-mail.

This time everything looks good except you copied the "link" from postimage.org:
https://postimg.cc/SXkfFkK5
Instead, you need to copy the "direct link" from postimage.org:
https://i.postimg.cc/6QGjZQx9/638-BA4-A4-F77-A-4-B19-B300-9-AD7-B3-DA5-FB9.jpg
This is the second choice on the list. If you then place that inside the image tags, you would get:

I'm posting here because the e-mail connection to the Webmaster is suddenly inoperative. It worked earlier today; but now, does not work.
There is nothing in this "sticky" that solves my problem. When I press the "Insert Image" button, I get [img] [img]. What am I supposed to do now?
I have a plain Jane jpeg file on my hard drive that I would like to share in the Elmers Forum; but cannot do so.
With all due respect, there have been more than 84,000 views of this post, which is an indicator of a problem needing attention.

If you have the picture or drawing on your PC, e.g. jpg, png, pdf, etc., then goto postimages.org (http://postimages.org) (no account needed). Make sure "Do not resize my image" and "Never expires" is selected. Then select your file to upload. It will then offer a bunch of links - copy the "direct link", the second one down, by clicking the blue icon to the right of it.
Now return to your eHam message where you want to insert the picture. In the eHam tool bar, select the insert picture icon (https://i.postimg.cc/tCWgDs6f/img.gif). Paste the copied link between the two IMG tags. It should look something like this: (https://i.postimg.cc/HkLvtyc4/IMG-tags.png). Select "preview" to confirmed it worked.
You can see how I put these pictures in this post by "quoting" my post. All the image tags will then be visible to you. After you looked at them, just use your browser's back button to cancel the quoting of my post.
I have shown to the eHam administrators how this can be integrated with a single button into this site and they have ignored the suggestion. They don't seem to care.

Thanks W9IQ for the reply.
What you describe will work; but I don't plan on ever doing it. The process is outright klunky; and to expect users to put up with it is an unacceptable programming practice. I regularly upload image files to other sites, and I have never seen anything as klunky as this.
It is my understanding that the people who run this site are pretty much volunteers; and do so for love of the hobby. For that reason I'll continue to support them. Maybe they have a programming objective or some other reason that they choose not to share.
-
I have taken a different tact - I don't financially support them anymore as they are unresponsive. If they came back and said they needed more money to support the update, that would be a different matter.

If you want the pix uploaded, just send it to me and I will post it for you. Yes, the process is "klunky" and multi stepped, But we all figured it out on our own, and post pictures when ever we want.

Glenn,
You put me in mind of the black and white movie (for those of you that - Oh, never mind) with a damsel in distress, tied down to the railroad tracks with a train bearing down on her and then the hero (let's call him Glenn) comes on the scene, rescuing her and they ride off into the sunset.
<Hidden Text>They, of course, were married and lived happily ever after.<End Text>
Again, you've solved another problem!! Oh, my hero!! LOL LOL
