VW Beetle vs. high-end consumer sports car. Think Acura NSX.

As in racing, to get much higher performance is going to cost you cubic dollars.

I am going to wait until the next great wave of technology comes along to eclipse the 7300...Then maybe I'll buy a good used one for 300- 500 dollars. That could be in five years.  Meanwhile I'll continue to use my bargain priced analogue clunkers....and still enjoy the hobby.  Only point I am trying to make is that sure, new technology offers better performance (more in the receiver category) and sure, some will always want to own latest and greatest; willing to part with more money to acquire the latest stuff.  I guess this is not important to me from my own perspective.  It's great that guys can spend the money upfront offering an incentive to the manufacturers to upgrade their offerings; there's nothing wrong with that.  I come from another perspective; for me, a hobby means I spend the least amount of capital and get the greatest pleasure on a shoe stream budget. I don't hunger for the promises of better than this or that.  I would rather work on the existing obsolete technologies and enjoy them for what they are.  I'll spend the money I save by not buying the latest things in this hobby and expand into my other hobbies.  Good luck to all...

... edit...
VW Beetle vs. high-end consumer sports car. ....

Actually, the 7300 is pretty much just slightly above the VW beetle level.

it's just another good basic radio.

It is superior receiver and cooler running transmitter them my 756pro3 which I paid $2700 for not all that long ago.  I don't buy your "basic" radio theory.  Nope, not even a little bit. And it is far and away from an IC718.

Guys, everything is 'relative'. I'm retired and watch my $. However, I bought a 7300 when they were first announced and don't even remember what I paid. Don't care, it's been a fantastic radio.
I just paid for my 7610, for which I scrimped and saved.
At my age, it will be my last radio. I have so many gathering dust here, from Allied to Collins, I just like radios. (as well as firearms, motorcycles, and hot rods, and a complete welding/machine shop).

To put things into perspective, I work part time for a rich buddy of mine. He has 5 Honda Goldwing trikes. He thinks NOTHING of a $25K custom paint job. $300K motorhomes. He retired at 39.

True.  I am retired now and can't really afford a 7610.  I would like to try one out.  Ron, let us know how you like it when you have had it a while...

Yeah, he's a pretty awesome guy. He owned several Indy cars. Check out 'Treadway Racing'.
He was the first owner in Indy 500 history to have his cars come in #1 and #2.

Not bad for a 10th grade education, eh?

Yeah, its such a great radio that it is selling for less than $1000. Wink

I have operated a 7300, its at best just "OK".
