Title: Radio Fool
Post by: KG7FIU on October 19, 2015, 05:01:58 AM
There was once a wealthy amateur radio operator.

He thought to himself, "What shall I do? I have no place to store all my transceivers and linear amplifiers".
“Then he said, "This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my shack and build a more extravagant one, with a magnificent antenna farm and there I will store all my equipment. And I’ll say to myself, 'You have plenty of radios and towers laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.'”

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get all the gear you have prepared for yourself?"  This is how it will be with those who store up things for themselves but are not rich in the sight of God.

Luke 12:13-21

I have so much stuff that some days I don't even get on the air, I just go to the shack to admire all my stuff! ;D

To combine religion with amateur radio is to take both topics too seriously.

The good Muslim goes on the Haj to Mecca at least once in his lifetime. The good ham does the same to Dayton.

I don't know with whoms hands the Lord shall bestow thy gear but most likely the almighty eBayeth and its PayPal minions shall feast on at least 7% of Your equipment.

Luke 12:13-21

Jesus told him, "If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Until you've done that, don't preach to the rest of us.

And Hiram P. Maxim spake and said unto him, get ye to Dayton and there ye shall buy a bunch of rigs.  Does not the squirrel save nuts for the winter?  And so shall it be for ye who will save rigs for eye candy in your shack.  And he went and he looked upon the place of the Harra Arena and said it is good, I shall store radios. And he did.  So there.

I am all for the collector/repairer and restorers and not just of radios. If it weren't for them a LOT of older ham gear would just go to landfills.
Most restoring and a lot of repairing is VERY time consuming. More a labor of love than anything else. I like working on certain keys. I just brought two
TenTec KR20A keyers back to life to add to my meager collection which is on my lookup page on QRZ.com.

The good Muslim goes on the Haj to Mecca at least once in his lifetime. The good ham does the same to Dayton Friedrichshafen.

Sorry Peter, I just had to fix that minor error in your post  ;D One glance at the tented city that arises at the end of June each year will confirm that I'm right. The traditional white robe is however replaced by the latest HAMRADIO t-shirt.

For some reason, Friedrichshafen just didn't 'click' for me at all. Been there, tried it and didn't like it - apart from the beer.

I always tell people, if ham radio were a religion it would have two
holy festivals each year. Hamvention, and Field Day.

God said.” Bestow on to me thy used and unwelcome ham related items”.
It’s Me KA9UCN, Please send such items to my QRZ address along with the usual 10% tithe check to ME. Care of KA9UCN to be used until I expire. At witch time I will be sending it to the after life by U.P.S. Remember U.P.S. delivers every where. I will pack it in the appropriate flame proof containers. If I run into God I will be happy to turn it over to him as after this post. I am sourly going to hell!

To combine religion with amateur radio is to take both topics too seriously.
Certain frequencies do that.

The participants usually end up getting cited.  ;)

Have you ever combined the two hobbies: radio astronomy?
