Title: D68I Comoros - active soon
Post by: WB9LUR on January 23, 2018, 04:45:22 PM
The D68I DXpedition to Comoros will be active soon and because they will be sharing some overlapping operational dates with Bouvet, I'm hoping that much of the QRM (and DQRM) will be distracted by 3Y0Z and make this one easier to work.

That one should draw a lot of attention as well. Last I have operating from there was 3 stations during 2001, and Vlad the lone traveler was there in 2007.

I'm hoping for that too... for ZC4A too  :)

None of those guys are in my log. Unless they were spotted on 6M or 160M, Spot Collector wouldn't have alerted me. But the island has been activated more than I realized. Was hoping for 160M with this upcoming operation, but their QRZed page says, "They will be active on 80-10m CW, SSB, DIGI." Looks like 160 ain't gonna happen. Good luck to those who need a new one or new band.

Back in 2001 D68C was incredibly easy to work.  I even worked them on 10 meter FM!  I could use D6 on the digital modes since I wasn't doing RTTY back then.

Yes Mason, every time you miss one, rejoice, you will have an ATNO to look forward to in the future (instead of being bored in the future).  ;D

Yes, they're the ones I worked as well - 40-10m, very easy.

Also need a DIGI QSO since like you I wasn't doing any RTTY, PSK, etc. at the time. 80m would be great too.

Besides their QRZ.com page they also have an "official" D68I website here: https://martinatic.wixsite.com/d68i

I also worked them on 10M FM. We had some good sunspot numbers during Feb 2001, with Cycle 23 about to climb to it's 2nd peak. They broke the world's record at the time with 168,695 total QSOs. That's after D68BT & D68WL were there Jan the same year. Of course records are made to be broken. I may be missing one or more, but VP6DX 2008 (Ducie) made 183,584 total QSOs and T32C 2011 (Eastern Kiribati) made 213,022 total QSOs. T32C had 41 ops and they were there for 30 days. They went there gunning for the world's record, and I believe they still hold it.

I need D6 on 160m too, but it seems to take some dedication and own experience to prioritize top band.

We're all waiting for Bouvet but the D68I DXpedition to Comoros (Comoro) is now active... Here's a link to their Facebook page:
