Title: Kenwood TS830 slow warm up...
Post by: AG4L on March 29, 2019, 04:07:04 PM
I have a kenwood TS830 that is slow to gain volume level.
When I first turn it on volume is very low.. After about 1-2 minutes. the volume
begins to increase. Im suspecting a falulty Cap.. somewhere. Which section should I
look at.
Thanks

What troubleshooting have you done and what were the results? Have you taken any voltage measurements? Have you looked at the audio stage using a scope?

A good starting point would be to monitor the DC voltages used by the Audio board. If you have a schematic of the AF unit, look at the upper right corner. TP6 is 9 volts. To the right of Q30 is 12.5 volts. To the right of Q34 is 14 volts. Watch what those voltages do in the first couple of minutes.

Thanks

Good idea.  You may have something out of tolerance in the AVR board, check those voltages.

Gud luck, great radio,

What does the S meter do during this warm-up time?

I'm not aware of any AVR board? I suggested he measure the DC voltages on the AF board.
