Title: License Class Question
Post by: KB3XE on December 20, 2005, 01:16:01 PM
Hi,
I'm confused about what class of license I will be given when I renew in 2006. I currently hold the "Advanced" class. I've heard that this class of license is no longer is available. I've also heard that hams who hold the "Advnaced" class will be grandfathered to the "Extra" class. I would appreciate someone letting me know what to expect when I renew my license.
Thank you

No NEW Advanced class licenses are being issued. All current Advanced class will retain that class upon renewal.

You "heard" wrong about the grandfathering. The FCC has consistantly stated they will NOT "promote" Advanced class hams to Amateur Extra. If you want Extra class you will have to take the exam.

Tou will retain your "Advanced" Class license.  Just be sure to renew to be able to keep operating.  Even though there's a grace period for renewal, it does NOT allow operation after the original expiration date.  Renew on time, and you can keep operating without interruption.
