Title: Power supply for Kenwood TS 430S
Post by: KJ6BSD on February 12, 2010, 08:49:20 PM
Hi,

I am just getting started in HF.
My grand father gave me a Kenwood TS 430S as a gift, under the condition that I get a power supply for it.

Do I need to get the matching PS 430 power supply?
Or are power supplies inter-changeable?

I don't think they make the PS 430 any more, so I am thinking I should get a more modern one.

Any recommendations out there?

Thanks very much in advance,
Johannes

Nope, you only need the matching power supply if you care that everything matches. Anything that delivers 13.8 volds at 20 or more amps will do. Mine is an Astron 50 that is under the desk so I have no problem if the power supply doesn't look like the rig,

You will find two types of power supplies switching and linear,  Switching supplies are less in price and weight than linear, but due to the way the switching works, you can get "birdies".  Linear Power Supplies use big transformers so are heavy but much quieter.

No matter which way you go, check the reviews section here - http://www.eham.net/reviews/products/20 before you buy.
