Post by: VE3ADB on February 18, 2013, 12:09:01 PM
Hi all

I have an FT8900R which is showing  busy on both sides and has no sound or squelch ,I have done reset and am completely stumped - all other functions (mem etc) seem normal. Any ideas or suggestions as to what is wrong with it.

thanks and 73

first disconnect the mic.. see if anything changes.
Are you sure its  'busy'  and not locked in  transmit.??

Other than that..might it be  a power up diagnostic hangup??

Keep  checking.. you often stumble on a problem, while  looking for a different one.

thanks for the tips, I tried them and still have the same result; busy signal flashing on both sides and no squelch or sound. I cannot transmit or receive but all other functions (programming etc still work) I guess its off to the repair shop!!!

I would try  a   full   reset to factory specs first..
I have seen some  weird  symptoms  that rest fixed.

Open speaker or dirty ext. speaker jack? Do you have a scope?

Thanks for the ideas I tried  resets but still have the same problem, I don't have a scope but I can get one of the guys at the club to put on and see what happens.I hooked up an external speaker and did not have any changes to the busy status on both sides, there is no squelch or even static.

Always possible that you have a tin whisker issue with the filters.
Best approach is getting radio "on the e-bench" with proper test instruments to troubleshoot and signal trace.
