hi merrill,

You've gotten back in at a great time, lots of new stuff to try.

Here is what I use,

http://www.digipan.net/  for psk31

http://mmhamsoft.ham-radio.ch/mmsstv/ for slow scan tv

The above are no cost to use.

http://www.mixw.net/  no cost to test it out.

It costs $50 after the evaluation period, but MixW2 is one of the best, especially if you want to use the built-in rig control features. Using a rig with selectable narrow filters in SSB (the IC656PRO for example) you can set MixW to select a narrow filter and automatically retune the radio to put a received signal in the center of the passband.

If you want an excellent FREE PSK31 program together with very sophisticated rig control, try Ham Radio Deluxe. You can find more info at  http://hrd.ham-radio.ch and http://www.ham-radio.ch/forums.

For other modes you could try HAMSCOPE and IZ8BLY's offerings - keep your money in your pocket until you have at least tried these.
