Yes, that is a small wire, an antenna maybe.
I wonder if they are remote temp sensors, although where they get power is beyond me...

Yes, Yes, K5TED. that is what I see in my city parks and else where, of course my version is a single and yours shown in a double cylinder.
I did make the mistake of not supplying a picture. Now if its not to much  to ask what is their function?

I have no idea. I just took what you described, Googled "plastic sconce", found one that looked like what I had envisioned by your description, and Photoshopped it in to that picture. Now at least we know kind of what it looks like.

I'm really sorry for the original poster that I cracked a joke regarding the "what's that" and advised finding someone near by to ask... after all, most people aren't technical, hams are, so this was/is the right place to ask. It seems some of the previous replies could also have been interpreted as unfriendly, and I'm sorry to see that the original poster has deleted his account. I hate to think my joke was the straw that broke the camels back. The original poster sounds like a gentleman and a ham, and I hope he will rejoin the forum again. 73 OM.

Eh, if just that set him off then maybe he's better off not posting.  Seems like some emotional immaturity at work.

I just hope he'll rejoin and give us a real photo of the 'thing'.

I just hope he rejoins, don't care if he doesn't provide a photo of the "thing" after all it seems it was identified and his description was pretty good as it turns out, someone was able to google image find it. I'm guilty of the same too, I have started a thread about an "unknown mode" and done my best to describe it, but really, I need to record it and give a link to the recording. Would also save a lot of replies that are asking more questions, and requiring more answers. I'm only generally unkind to Digital CW operators  Roll Eyes

Let him go.  Guys like that just want the attention by being consoled after getting their feelings hurt.  Next time, it will be something totally different that will get his panties in a twist.

Why are his feelings hurt? He described a thing. I found something that resembled what he described and posted an artistic rendition of such to see if he concurred that it was indeed a valid representation. He did. Now, we need to see the actual thing to do further investigation.

Hard telling, bro.  Lots of odd ducks in the hobby.

I'm guessing that due to their stealthy appearance, they are climate change monitors. If they were larger and more visible, climate change deniers would be plinking them with .22s.

I believe I know exactly what that is!  My ex girlfriend had a couple of them.  I don't think it would be appropriate however, to go into details about it on this forum.
