Malta confirmed on 17M via LOTW - three and a half years after the QSO! Still chasing down confirmations of common not-rare countries on WARC bands without paying to ship paper cards :-)

I missed this from a while back:

I need to get myself a fancier QSL card when I use up the basic ones I have now...

73 de KM4SII - Mason

What you really want to consider, Mason, is having one QSL for your direct cards and another for your "buro" cards.

You will find out, if you have not already, that some guys from JA and DL land QSL everything.  If you want to be a nice guy and QSL anyway (who knows, maybe they are county hunters and need your card after all), then you simply want an inexpensive card.  I print such cards myself for 5 cents a card, perhaps less, on my laser printer.  You can also get them made to order with a little care at your local Office Max or Staples or whatever.  If you go strictly black and white (or black, white, and grey scale picture) nothing is cheaper.  You can get four cards to a page if you work on it.  The only trick is to deal with the margins.  The secret is to have about a 1/4 inch border around the cards, as printed, and then have your image as supplied remove that 1/4 inch around the perimeter.  Then tell them to print it as-is.  They'll charge you a small fee to cut the cards.   Quantities?  Whatever you want.  Good way to print some emergency cards, too.

For card stock, just provide 67 pound vellum (145 grams per square meter) or have Office Max provide it and you will have, by far, the cheapest mailing rate for your outgoing "buro" cards.  This even can swamp the cost of the card itself thanks to the 1.15 per ounce the US Outgoing buro now charges.  You want to get at least 15 cards to the ounce.  Not 10.  The similar 65 pound card stock is OK, but it is more like 175 grams per square meter.  The US system for weight of paper is nuts -- always find the metric measurement, which is generally given nowadays.

Or, use Global QSL (then they will provide full sized color cards and thickness/weight becomes their problem).

For direct, you can then do what you want.  I find that UX5UO provides very nice cards for a very competitive price.  The minimum order is 1000 cards, but as you are starting out, that's just not a problem.  Just make sure you can place and address label over your address if you move before you use them up.  It is the address that is actually critical for any award, including WAZ.  Hey, your card might be used sometimes!

I posted this in another thread, but I thought I would post it here as well since this thread is all about LOTW and QSL confirmations.

My personal LOTW stats:

- 2014 - 36.83% of my 3022 QSOs confirmed via LOTW to date
- 2015 - 48.70% of my 4854 QSOs confirmed via LOTW to date
- 2016 - 56.54% of my 4824 QSOs confirmed via LOTW to date
- 2017 - 48.47% of my 4469 QSOs confirmed via LOTW to date, but it's still too early. It's not yet the end of this year and most of my QSOs were made in the last two months in the two CQWW contests. A lot more LOTW confirmations to come.
