Hi all,

On the Yaesu VX-8DR L3 is 2.5W and Hi is 5W (in VHF). Due to linear amp input parameters (RM Italy LA-145), I need 4W (5W will overdrive the amp - I asked and their engineer confirmed). Does anyone know of a way to change the setting for L3 on the 8DR to change it from 2.5W to 4W?

Thanks so much

Barring a service menu adjustment, setting the radio at 5W and using a ~3M long RG-316 connecting cable (~1dB loss) would get you there.

As my dad would have said: Duh. Great idea! Thanks Mark!

If anyone does know how to change the settings/insides, I'm still a taker. Thanks.

You can also get an SMA-male to SMA-female 1 dB attenuator for about $10.00 off of eBay. I have a box of assorted attenuators of that style for my test bench.

To the receiver you would not even notice 1 dB less sensitivity.

On eBay, do a search for "SMA Fixed Attenuator 1dB DC-6 GHz 2W"

It costs $5.99
