We activated a brand new National Monument, Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument as part of the ARRL National Parks On The Air Event using our mobile HF station yesterday. This site just became a National Park 6 days ago. The pileups were tremendous and required us to use split operation from our mobile for the first time. We wrote an article about our experiences with the activation and we thought the readers here might be interested in read it. You can find the article here -

Nice!  What kind of equipment are you using in the mobile?

Our Mobile HF project was done in stages. We began, as many do, with a 100W Transceiver and Ham Sticks and grew from there. Our current setup includes a Screwdriver Antenna and an Amplifier. You can see more here on our Blog -

That is a Scorpion right?

Bad (rear end word) antenna right there!

Yes, the antenna is a Scorpion SA-680. The real story is the 4 ft rod and the capacitance hat. Check out our Blog for details.
