In a recent article that I read, which I have forgotten who wrote it, it said use a thicker wire for wider bandwidth.

I am planning a stealth inverted L antenna for 20m which will be wrapped partially to a outdoor light string in my yard. (HOA problem)

I was going to use 16 awg stranded for the antenna. In trying to see what would be required for mounting, I tried 14 awg stranded.
It is very difficult to straighten. My next choice would be 10 or 12 awg solid copper wire, which may be easier to straighten.

The question: Is it worth it?

I will be adding a remote tuner to the antenna in the next 3 months  or so. I have 100 feet of RG8/u between the FT-450D transceiver and the antenna

That slight bit of difference in diameter will have no appreciable effect on the bandwidth.

Only if you get up into the several inches of diameter will you see much of a difference, and on 20 meters the bandwidth will be pretty good as is. Certainly within the range of a "trim" tuner like is built into most modern rigs. 80 and 160 is where we run into bandwidth problems for sure.  Any full size antenna on 20 isn't going to be much of a problem.

As Glenn has said, no difference. 

But if you make a cage antenna, with 4 or more wires, say 6 - 8 inches in total diameter, then you should notice an increase in bandwidth. 

IIRC, WA7PRC did the same thing with an 80 dipole.

As N2SR said a cage arrangement is the ticket.  I made an 80 meter inverted V broadbanded this way.  I used round disk spreaders and had 4 wires 8 inches apart running through the spreaders on each leg of the inverted V.  It covered all the 80 meter band from the CW end to the SSB end without needing a tuner.  It is equivalent to an 8 inch diameter wire as far as the RF is concerned.  Cheesy   As discussed, going to a slightly larger gauge wire won't make any difference.

"wrapped partially to outdoor lighting"?  Not sure what you mean, but if part of the antenna would be wrapped, that would be a big problem.
