James, 9V1YC is active as 8Q7YC.  I worked him last night on 40m with just my quarter wave vertical.  For whatever reason, 8Q is one of the toughest propagation paths for me on any band.  It's not like there is no activity there.  Many EU hams vacation in the Maldives but I seldom hear them.  Most operations there are "holiday style" with a vertical on the beach and 100w and not real DXpeditions.  Needless to say it was a rush to work him on 40m, a new one for me on that band.

I know many of you have worked James, either from his home call or one of the many DXpedtions he's been on.  He's an excellent operator.  If you need this one, he has great ears.

Sure does and he's not excessively busy.  You must not be the only one for which this is a difficult path.

I got through on 40 on Long Path in the early evening locally.

I got him on 30m yesterday.  I came home today too late for 40m.  In two minute's time I never copied him and then he QSY'ed to 40m.  There's a very short window to work him on 40m from CO.  Congrats on your 40m contact Larry.  That's a hard nut to crack.

I'll have to chase this one, as I just realised I don't have Maldives on 80 m, nor do I have it confirmed on 40 m!

Worked James on 20 m the other day, really weak here.
